Electronic Cigarettes: Do They Really Help Smokers Quit?

Then, they followed up with them 14 months later and asked them if they used tobacco over the past month. The researchers found that there was a relationship between the amount of fruits and vegetables the study participants ate, and the likelihood that they quit — and stayed off — tobacco. In fact, people who ate the most produce in the study were three times more likely to report that they’d been tobacco free in the previous month. The researchers also found a link between increased produce consumption and taking longer in the day to have the first cigarette, smoking fewer cigarettes, and decreased dependence on nicotine (based on test results).

Moshe Berman, a manager at No Flame E-Cigarette, told the ABC News Fixer that the company has worked to address each complaint by offering free products or refunds when warranted. “We do our 100 percent best,” he said. The ABC News Fixer has seen similar set-ups with other “free trials” online, for everything from diet pills to shampoo. Our advice: Be wary, and read every word of fine print. Don’t forget that they’ve got your credit card for the shipping and handling and that’s what they’ll use to bill you later. Got a consumer problem?

E-cigarettes face new restrictions

In 2009, the FDA warned consumers about potential health risks after analyzing nicotine cartridges from two leading brands. Electronic cigarettes: No smoking, but lots of fuming

E-cig sellers jockey for market position before FDA issues regulations

FOR THE RECORD: E-cigarettes: An article in the July 6 Saturday section about the debate over the use of electronic cigarettes omitted the first name of John “JJ” Jenkins, owner of the Vapor Spot in Westwood. Vapers argue that the emissions from a few ingredients must be cleaner than the thousands of charred chemicals flowing from the average cigarette. Critics worry that the devices and the components of their associated vapor are “untried, untested and unknown,” in the words of Stella Bialous, president of the San Francisco consulting firm Tobacco Policy International. In the California Senate, lawmakers recently approved a bill that would ban vaping from every place smoking is already prohibited. The measure awaits discussion in the Assembly. UCLA has already taken that step, outlawing e-cigarettes on April 22, the same day it shut out their smoky cousins.

EU vote on electronic cigarettes ‘makes no sense’

Users of e-cigarettes (known as vapers) have protested, arguing that through e-cigarettes they were able to kick the tobacco habit. By Martin Banks in Brussels 4:18PM BST 14 Jul 2013 The vote was intended to make tobacco smoking less attractive to young people through mandatory warnings, minimum pack sizes, and rules on flavourings. However, the revision of the EU ‘Tobacco Products Directive’ would classify most e-cigarettes as a medicinal product, despite the fact that in the UK alone 25 percent of all attempts to kick the habit are made using e-cigarettes, making them the most popular aid. The European Commission had proposed that e-cigarettes containing 4 milligrammes or more of nicotine must be classed as medicinal products but an EU parliamentary committee went further, voting to classify all e-cigarettes as pharmaceuticals, regardless of the nicotine content. Users of e-cigarettes (known as vapers) have protested, arguing that through e-cigarettes they were able to kick the tobacco habit.
